New guest at the Hotel: Page

This week, we received a very special 'guest': Page vom Hölkenbusch arrived. She is a red-white texel sow, born in Germany, coming from Russia (THANK YOU, IRINA!!!). I am very pleased with her, not only because she is simply perfect, but because she comes from a very famous and reliable line. Her father is Tacoma vom Dreiländereck, a very special boar, who plays an important part in many top texel lines of today.

Tacoma vom Dreiländereck:

UK. Retro at Brentwood Hotel

Retro is another extreme white parti texel, which hopefully will improve the tortie-whites. I expect a lot from him, as he is the last grandson of my British import Russell (born in 1999.). Russell represented almost everything that I expect from a texel: type, substance, coat, and a nice face which makes a texel a texel. :o)
(Retro's other grantfather is Iontus from Dreiländereck - also from a line which I adore so much.)
Retro is 3 months old in the photos:

A stuffed toy? No, it's Chase!

This is a two week old baby boar, Chasing Cars at Brentwood Hotel "Chase". Again, a baby which has the colour pattern I like so much. His father is Piki Kvik Happy Day (thanks, Irina!), and her mother is Face's Tochter von Werne (danke, Irene!).
Face has already brought beautiful daughters and granddaughter to me, but this is the first time I can keep a son of her, so I especially am pleased with him.

If you are interested where his name comes from, listen to the song called "Chasing Cars" from the band Snow Patrol. I can recommend it to all Grey's Anatomy fans - and anybody else because it's just a great song:

Left side. Is it really the same cavy? :o)

Yes, it is. Look at him face to face:

It's here finally: my "Stolle"!

Arrived just in time: all our Christmas sweets are almost gone by now, and guess what: another one just arrived: it is a traditional German Christmas cake, called "Stolle". Many thanks and all my new years' wishes go to Andrea Illmer (Gotenholz cavies!) , who made all this possible: made the Stolle herself and posted it to me!

DANKE ANDREA!!!

... and now let's see how a Stolle looks like:

Directly from Germany: a nice box arrived. Let it stay a bit on the kitchen table:

And out of the box: the Stolle smiles "free" on the table! :

That is the reason for the photos: it will not stay like this for long... :o) :

New year - new baby budgies...?!?

After many years of no offspring with the budgerigars, I have decided to give it a try again now. "Lelenc" and the new girls are old enough to move to a separate cage. They spent their first two days there and were fascinated by the nestbox from the first second. Lelenc jumped in a few times already, and tried to make it a bit more comfortable.

(Please do not expect anything "serious" from this mating, it is just a complete cross of two totally different things: the beauty of the show line and the liveliness of the "everyday" budgie.
Let's see what mother nature brings, but I hope for the bigger size of the show birds, and the special character of the "pet shop" birds at the same time...)

Lelenc, the little budgie, who just decided that he wants to live with us a few months ago. Let's see if he becomes a good father:

Our would-be Mom, still no name, sorry...:

The "honeymoon cage": not too big, not too small: just having everything around that they need in the coming weeks.

A good start to 2008.

The end of the previous year brought us some joy, some sorrow, and some surprizes - as usual in the life of a caviary. Some youngsters stayed, you can see them in the following entries below.

Also, in the last days of December, the litters from a "visitor" were born! So much waiting, so much excitement, but they are here finally! Two litters arrived from Berlin vom Hölkenbusch. Berlin just spent some of his baby months with us. Many thanks to Irina Biletzkaya (Piki Kvik Caviary) for letting him stay here for a while!
Berlin has a pedigree including some of the best lines I can imagine, and he looks just as good. I could not believe my eyes how big and strong he was when he arrived!

Photos of his babies will follow soon hopefully.

And this is Berlin... Just a few months old, and looking like a champion:

Volver at Brentwood Hotel

"Volver" comes from an elderly couple... Mother "Tellie" (Telltale at Brentwood Hotel) is from Cézanne von Uplengener Stubsnasen, an old boar spending his well earned old age pension here. His German breeders unfortunately stopped their activities, but produced exceptional longhairs still just a few years ago. Their texels, peruvians, etc. are represented extensively in pedigrees all around Europe, including Hungary.
Tellie's mum, Texel Impala Young Spirit was imported from Ioana Cráciun (Romania), but coming totally from Brentwood Hotel animals.
Volver's father is another German import, Raymond von Piccolinos. He is not young, either, but still produces babies, which we can be proud of. One of our young boars, Armani is also his son.

(Some background information: Volver got her name from the title of a Spanish movie. It is a great movie, worth watching if you want a bit more than the usual blockbusters. You can find some information on the movie here:

Walt Disney at Brentwood Hotel

"Disney" shows the distribution of colous which I like in a tortie-white: He has differently coloured eye-patches left and right, and none of his three colours dominate too much. Just prefect - for me at least. :o)
The proud father is Quentin vom Gotenholz.
His mother is Kismet at Brentwood Hotel, an "oldie" here, also with excellent proportion of colours.

This is Disney getting his "ugly phase": becoming longish and a typical teenager all over:

But look at him as a young baby. It was easy to decide that he would stay at the "hotel"... :o)

Yo-Yo at Brentwood Hotel

"Yo-Yo" is from the first litter of the Gotenholz-girls, and I think she looks totally her mother, Rowena vom Gotenholz: beautiful head, deep colours - and many other things which I like to see in a cavy. (Father: Emporio Armani at Brentwood Hotel). She will move to Russia soon.

Ztrawberry at Brentwood Hotel

"Berry" is a tortie-white baby sow. Her father is Loser (Losing My Religion at Brentwood Hotel), who carries many of my favourites (Iontus, Berlusconi, Face, etc.) in his pedigree. Her mother, Queenie vom Gotenholz is a newcomer here, Berry comes from her first litter. Let's see what she brings - in addition to the nice deep colours which is so typical of her lines.
