Visiting the Hedgehogs!

I could see some of the first African Pygmy Hedgehogs in Hungary today. My "old" friend Hédi (the Mum of my godson) owns them, and today was the great day to visit them for the first time. They are even smaller than I expected, they move around like little toycars, and they are really cute. :o)
You can have some additional information on their site (in Hungarian):

Some photos I took today:

Retro's Daughters

After one of my favourite boars UK Retro at Brentwood Hotel tragically died, I knew I had to keep something after him. Fortunately, some sows had litters to him, so maybe I can carry on with his line through his daughters (all tortie-white texels).

This is Jazz Time at Brentwood Hotel, the oldest one. Her mother is Osbourne Sharon at Brentwood Hotel. She surely will stay at the Hotel. :o)

This is her 'black and white' side:

And this is her 'red and white' side (yes, it's the same cavy...):

I still keep an eye on these other three, let's see how they develop.

Perfect Poem at Brentwood Hotel comes from the same combination as Jazz:

She is Shake the Disease at Brentwood Hotel, her mother: Telltale at Brentwood Hotel:

Shake's sister Suffer Well at Brentwood Hotel (Yes, it's a 'Depeche Mode litter'! :o) :

New Life

From today, all three chicks are with the adults already. They eat well, so hopefully they start their new life away from their parents without problems.

Only the oldest baby has had some problems lately. Maybe it was his parents, maybe his first attempts to fly, he had some wounds on his wings. He is OK, but he spent the last few days separated.

The two younger chicks already get on well with the others:

Still the babies...

Sorry for the lots of budgerigar photos, but the chicks are developing so quickly, and I don't want to miss anything... So, please see today's update of the 3 misfits.

The oldest baby spent his (her?) day out today. He can fly (not perfectly yet...), climb and pick seeds alone. Also, he started playing with the toys hanging around the cage. But his longest activity today was arranging his feathers:

The second chick was sitting out of the nest for hours. His (her?) first day out! He did not do too much, and returned for the night:

The youngest one has not come out of the nest at all, but kept on watching out all day.
I think he will be the clown of the company. Just look at these photos :o))) :

Out of the Nest - Finally!

Today was the great day: the oldest baby spent his half day out of the nest!

Step 1: Just hanging out, not so sure if the outside world is better than in the nest...

Step 2: Sitting in the "door", looking carefully:

Step 3: Out for the first time! He was sitting still first, but also tried climbing and flying a bit

Step 4: Already doing the budgies' most important job: looking cute :o)

Brothers didn't want to follow. They spent this day eating and looking out as usual:

"Not so sure if I ever fly out. It's OK here."

"Wow! Do we live so high up here?!?"

Dad did not really help, but he was keeping an eye on the events all the time:

"OK, let's see what's happening today."

"Shit. Don't you ever stop taking photographs?!?"
